The Area: Yamba, NSW
With a climate listed as one of the best in the world by the CSIRO, the coastal fishing town of Yamba offers all the tropics and tranquillity of an island getaway without leaving Australian soil. Located on a peninsula surrounded by eight unspoiled beaches, adjacent to the Yuraygir National Park, which is rich in wildlife and cliff-top bushwalks.
The wealth of crystalline beaches wrapping its coastline makes Yamba a mecca for water sports like surfing, swimming, snorkelling and kite surfing; while the majestic Clarence River is a great spot for fishing and kayaking. Romantics could drink in the panoramic views from Yamba Lighthouse, which is particularly beautiful at sunset and sunrise, or take the Lovers Point rock walk where whales can be seen between May and November.
From Angourie, there is a scenic walk leading through Yuraygir National Park to Shelley Beach, a secluded place to spend the day. Another Angourie highlight is the Blue Pool, a freshwater swimming pool surrounded by forest.
