Wonder Woman, Shazam and Aquaman splashdown at Comic-Con
With Marvel absent, DC had Saturday all to itself at Comic-Con as part of a massive presentation from Warner Bros. in Hall H.
The DC Extended Universe has a lot riding on James Wan’s Aquaman and the crowd was eager to get a look at the first trailer, but not before a typically energetic Jason Momoa professed to be thrilled with the finished film.
“My heart is big and open. I’m really, really happy,” the hulking Hawaiian told the crowd.
Nicole Kidman brought a touch of glamour to the Q&A in her first Comic-Con appearance. The Aussie Oscar-winner, who plays Queen Atlanna, mother to Arthur Curry/Aquaman, recalled her introductory scene was not so glamorous – lying on a rock while being pummeled with waves.
Wan described Aquaman as playing more like a science fiction/fantasy film than a superhero movie. “I wanted it to be a little bit different, a bit more unique,” which is what the hotly anticipated first trailer delivered.
Atlantis resembles a combination of Pandora, Middle-earth and Asgard, and the film looks more vibrant than prior DCEU movies. And of course it has the leviathan-sized charisma of Momoa to carry it.
Wan had also brought footage that wouldn’t be seen beyond Hall H for now, including a dynamic rooftop pursuit with Black Manta, and a glimpse of some Lovecraftian fish monsters.
